About this template

These prompts work with any fiction book or short story, so the wheel can stay up all year. Students spin, respond in their reading journal and share with a partner. The variety keeps journals from becoming a summary every day.

Tips for using this wheel

  • Add a nonfiction wheel with prompts about facts, diagrams and the author's purpose.
  • Use Elimination mode so each prompt is used once per week.
  • Pair with a student picker to choose who shares their response.
